Oxford 3-1 Henley
OXFORD SNEAK VITAL WIN, IN CLASH OF THE LEAGUE TOP TWO!
Oxford Hockey Club Men’s first team kept their unbeaten record in MBBO Regional 1, having been pushed all the way by Henley in Oxford on Saturday.
Oxford enjoyed the home advantage and having missed a number of chances, were able to open the scoring from a penalty corner through skipper Matt McKeown.
Oxford continued to dominate and with McKeown unable to convert another drag flick soon after, a lucky break allowed McKeown to collect the rebound and drill the shot home for a 2-0 lead before half time.
Oxford’s ability to improve in the second half has been a common theme this season, but for once they allowed their visitors to work their way back into the match.
With decisions going against Oxford and Henley creating chances something had to give and it did; not once but twice Henley struck back to peg a disorientated OHC back to 2-2.
The Blues have been impressive at snatching important late points this season and Saturday was no exception. Just as Oxford were about to return to eleven players, after Ben Richards’ spell in the sin bin, they won another short corner. McKeown once more powered home to steal the 3 points.
Oxford travel to Chiswick next week, with a 7 point lead at the top of the table.
Final Score: 3-2
Goal Scorer: Matt McKeown (3)
