Ladies’ 3s v. Banbury 2s – 15.02.14 – Match Report

Oxford 5-0 Banbury

Oxford turned up with 14 players, but without Captain Emma who was off to the slopes! Oxford started well with good attacks from Holly, Jen and Leoni, with Donna, Mel and Kate controlling the midfield and linking up with the forwards to put the Banbury defence under immediate pressure, resulting in a short corner within the first few minutes. Leoni pulled the ball out to Suzie at the top of the D who struck it into the back of the goal.

Katie, Christine, Laura and Michelle worked the ball out of defence well, finding Charlotte and Niki down the left, crossing to find Holly who had a strike at goal only to be saved and partly cleared, when Suzie picked up the ball and reverse-sticked it into the net to make it 2-0 before half time.

In the second half, Oxford continued pressuring Banbury’s defence with attack after attack, Mell hit the ball into the D which rebounded off a defender, for Jen to pick up on the top of the D and find the back of the goal. Oxford moved the ball around well with Kate using her skills to beat a defender, finding Leoni who’s shot was saved, but Jen picked it up, flicking the ball into the goal for her second.

Charlotte then made a great run up the pitch passing the ball into the D with a scurry of attempts on goal, which Mell finally put away making the final score a well deserved 5-0 win, from a strong team performance!
