Ladies’ 3s v. Reading 2As – 20.09.14 – Match Report

 Oxford 2 – 2 Reading

The first test of the season for the L3s was helping Reading decide what to wear.  Should it be the blue or the blue?   After some deliberation they decided on the blue; well, who wouldn’t want to look like us?!

Reading was the first to get some genuine attempts on goal only to be denied by GK Alex and Hannah K-W who swiftly intercepted a Reading opportunity as their forwards politely offered one another the shot.  As the first half went on Oxford created some good movement within the midfield and kept the play in the Reading 25 with youngster, Sophia Choudhury running at the defence and calmly passing the ball through to Tinny who made no mistake in scoring!  Oxford ended the first half 1-0 up looking in control.

In the second half an increasingly frustrated Reading side started to put the pressure on and managed to convert a short corner from a deflection off the GK stick.  This lifted the mood of Reading who made a run and a kick (cough cough) from the 25 and wrong footed the keeper to go 2-1 into the lead.  Oxford kept their cool and stepped it up a gear and with some great team play increased the pressure on the Reading defence.  After some agonisingly close near misses, including a short corner strike from Suzie, Tinny was awarded her second goal of the game to see Oxford draw level and earn the nickname for the day of ‘2 goals Tinny’. (‘10 goals Tinny’ also has a good ring to it….next time perhaps?! J )

Reading were denied 2 further short corner chances to ensure each team in blue walked away with 1 point.  This was an encouraging start to the season with plenty of great work by the L3s. Reading was a good warm up for the next game; the local derby against Oxford Hawks… a game not to be missed!
