Ladies’ 1s v. Epsom – 7.11.15 match report

Saturday 7th November 2015: South League Div 2

Epsom 5, Oxford 2

Oxford travelled away to Epsom but an inconsistent performance cost them dear, suffering their heaviest defeat of the season.

After a confident start and narrowly missing an early penalty corner attempt, Oxford had a poor 10 minute spell in the second half conceding an open play goal and a penalty corner to go two down in the first twenty minutes.  However, Oxford finally improved their passing and movement and with confidence on the rise forced a penalty corner from which Emily Malden forced home a rebound to get a goal back.  Oxford felt they had a real chance of turning things round at the break.

Oxford again started well in the second half with Ellie Ingram going close early on, but Epsom looked quicker to the ball and counter attacked quickly stretching the Oxford defence and creating many chances.  The pressure took its toll,  and Oxford conceded two more open play goals before conceding the fifth in a goalmouth melee where Epsom looked the more determined to force the ball home.  Oxford grabbed a consolation goal two minutes from time when Rachel Lammey fired home after a great left sided move, but it was all too little too late.

Oxford slip to eighth in the table and will need to pick up points in their three remaining games before the Christmas break.

Scorers: Emily Malden, Rachael Lammey
