Ladies’ 2s v. Hawks 3s – 23.01.16 match report

Oxford  2-2  Hawks

This fixture had been a fairly comfortable win for Oxford at home in the first half of the season, but Hawks proved a much stronger opposition this time around.

Hawks started better, drawing a fine flying save from Phil in goal in the first few minutes. She was called upon again soon after when Lizzie stopped the ball from crossing the line with her feet, and saved the resulting penalty flick. It wasn’t all Hawks though, and Oxford created some really good chances too, but it somehow was still 0-0 at half-time. Other first-half highlights included Lizzie’s spectacular aerial – not lacking in height or power, it flew straight over the fence out of the pitch, earning her the DoD award.

In the second half, Hawks went a goal ahead, but Lara levelled things when she slotted home an excellent cross from Niki. Lucy put Oxford in the lead with a powerful strike from the top of the D, but the away side were unable to hold out and Hawks managed a deserved equaliser just before the final whistle.
