Ladies 2s v. Bracknell 1s – 6.2.16 match report

Oxford  6-0  Bracknell

After a couple of disappointing draws, the 2s were keen to move up a gear on their away trip to Bracknell. After overcoming the challenge of finding the changing rooms (Niki somehow failing to spot the large sign that read ‘Ladies’ Changing Rooms’), they had a good warm up and team talk and took the game to their opponents.

It took a while for the first goal to come, but Captain Ruth led by example and made the break through with a short corner strike (with slight help from a defensive deflection). She added a second before half-time when Claire passed her the ball and she fired home (all her own work that time).

The team was playing really well – for once showing that they had been paying attention in training and following Andrew’s instructions to play the ball around patiently. Zoe and Charley in particular were really creative, defending strongly at the back but also pushing up well and setting up some great team moves. Martha worked tirelessly on the left while Niki found plenty of space up front and used her speed to good effect.

In the second half, Oxford suddenly killed off the game with two early goals. They kept up the pressure right til the final whistle and added another couple. Sophia, a newcomer to the 2s, scored a hat trick – including a deflection that she took really well after excellent work from Martha on the left, who fired the cross over. Laura also got a well-deserved birthday goal, and looked dangerous on the right throughout the game.

All in all, a very satisfying 6-0 result and great team performance.
