Ladies 3s v. Reading 2A – 27.2.16 match report

Oxford  6-1  Reading

With the 3s eyeing another win they welcomed Reading ‘4s’!!  Reading, as expected, were a mixture of youth and youth, ready to run all day – the youthful exuberance showed during the first half with them attacking with pace but Oxford showed their experience, only allowing Reading half chances which they didn’t take advantage of.

Oxford on the other hand had most of their possession in the Reading half and managed to create a number of excellent chances only not to capitalise on them. It took a short corner from Oxford to break the deadlock! Suzie stepped up and showed the Reading youngsters how it was done by side stepping the number one runner then  powerfully hitting the ball through the keeper’s legs! But the lead didn’t last long – from the resulting push back Reading found their cutting edge to equalise and this is how it stayed until half-time.

After a stern team talk and encouragement to step things up another level during the second half – that’s exactly what we did.  Oxford started to move the ball around well and contain the Reading forwards, with great defensive work from Sarah S, Liv, Katie, Claire B, and Laura F was solid in goal making some crucial saves.  There was excellent midfield play by Sophia, Katriona, Suzie and Christy linking well with the forwards, and running neatly around the Reading players causing problems were Hie, Maya, Frankie and Katriona. Some great team goals followed with Beks finding the net twice (well actually three times, once without the ball) and Christy with two goals and Maya making sure with one of her own.  Final score 6-1 to the home team…  keeping us top of the league.

MOM: Christy – superb game, intelligent hockey and commitment with 2 goals 🙂

Scorers: Beks x 2, Christy x 2, Suzie, Maya

DOD: Beks – fired herself into the back of the goal, literally and not when she scored 🙁
