South League Division 2
Teddington 3, Oxford 0
With a couple of great performances behind them, Oxford were confident of a result travelling to mid table Teddington.
At the start of the first half, Oxford were immediately under pressure conceding a string of penalty corners and unable to get out of their half. Teddington were first to the ball in most areas of the pitch and although Oxford defended well they did not look to be creating many chances going forward. It came as no surprise when the Oxford defences were finally breached after 17 minutes when a simple far post ball was tucked away by a Teddington forward to take the lead. Oxford gradually began to get back into the game and finished the half strongly, but could not find a way through the well drilled home defence.
The second half started in the same way as the first with Teddington making all the moves and Oxford defending deep and in numbers. But the home team always looked sharper to the ball and in the last ten minutes cemented their lead with another goal from close range. This was closely followed by a third from a penalty corner. Oxford began to tire but kept up a great work rate to deny the home team any more goals.
Oxford’s last game of the season is at home against London Wayfarers with a draw or a win enough to keep them up.
