Ladies 3s v. Thame 1s – 5.3.16 match report

Thame  1-4  Oxford

Oxford 3s went to Thame for what they knew would be a physical game and weren’t disappointed.  Oxford started well with a great run forward forcing a free hit just outside the 25 which Suzie took quickly finding Sarah F in the D. Sarah drove towards the goal keeper to slot the ball into the goal at a tight angle – super goal within a minute of the start!!

During the first half Oxford continued to pressure Thame, firing shots at goal only to be denied by the GK and saves off the line.  Sarah S had a great game down the flanks working well with the forwards to put pressure on the Thame defence.  Then the Oxford defence were caught out with a ball picked up by a Thame forward who scored making it 1-1.  Georgie in goal made some great saves with excellent defending by Katie, showing age is class. Some great play by Danielle, with a few aerials; Liv with strong tackles and driving forward; Claire in the middle of the park linking up well with Amy; and Jen and Hie forcing a run of short corners.  One which resulted in a shot from Suzie saved by a body on the line, rewarded by a penalty flick – Hie calmly stepped up to put Oxford 2-1 up at half time.

In the second half Oxford continued to battle away and started to dominate play but not quite being able to put the ball away until Beks found herself with the ball in the D and fired into the back of the goal for Oxford’s 3rd.  Hie, Alice, Jen and Sarah F ran tirelessly to make space and create chances, being rewarded with a goal from great play forward where Hie scored making the final score 4-1.
