OHC L1s 1-5 Banbury L1s
South League Div 2
After last week’s match was cancelled, the ladies 1s started their league campaign away to Banbury.
As the game started, Banbury were keen to take the game to Oxford, pressing high and were able to covert an early penalty corner to put them 1-0 up. Oxford got into the match and started to push higher after good work by Harri Wilkinson and Clare Shaw in defence, but Banbury were able to capitalise on a quick break to make the score 0-2. Oxford came back with a goal of their own; Jess Upjohn demonstrating some skills in the 25 to get the ball to Jen Johnson who found Floor Timmer in the D who turned and shot to score on her OHC debut. Unfortunately Banbury were able to add a 3rd just before half-time.
Oxford needed a better second half, and started to put more pressure on the Banbury defence which yielded a number of penalty corners. Oxford still needed to be sharp in defence however, and man of the match Emma Henriksen made some great saves to deny the opposition forwards. However, Banbury’s press continued to frustrate Oxford, scoring two more in the second half to leave the final score 1-5.
Scorer: Floor Timmer
