OHC M8s 2-1 Witney 3s
MBBO Open 8 West
The 8s have started the season with a fantastic win against a Witney team that were playing in a higher division last year.
During a fairly even first half the better chances were probably made by our boys and the greatest threat on the pitch came from our talented junior Tom Tebay. It is probably natural talent but he could have been fired up by the stinging rebuke from a feisty Clive who who seemed strangely incensed at having to send multiple emails to try and secure Tom’s considerable services.
Notable debuts were made by another near junior, Dave Oakley. He rolled back the years and brushed off a 15 month layoff to produce a display exuding skill and energy.
Early in the second half the deadlock was broken by a combination of Tebay and Scrase, a combination that threatened all match long.
Our miserly defence somehow conceded a goal deep in the second half to square the scores. I think a victim of a loose ball that Witney reached first.
A tiring centre half perhaps put more load on the defence and we needed a full stretch stick save from Dan in goal to keep us ahead, another moment for the highlights package. An open last few minutes saw a late attack from our boys with the ball rifled into the d. AMH, the man that is always in the right position, got a Deft deflection past the Witney keeper to put us 2:1 up with a few minutes to play. The last attack of the game came from Witney with play breaking down on our 23. The tiring captain was harshly called for a 5m infringement and a short corner was given. Following a disagreement between captain and umpire over the measurement of 5m, Jon was invited to spend the rest of the game in the dugout. The short corner was the last play of the match. Andy Bowen showed the pace of Usain Bolt to get to the hitter but another short ensued from a foot. Again Bowen flew out and the attack was thwarted. 2:1 to OHC and the beer tasted as sweet as nectar.
Scorers: Tom Scrase, AMH
