OHC L2s 3-1 Wycombe L2s
Another game and another DOD for me, anyone would think the team like my match reports! So here goes…
The Ladies 2s took on Wycombe Ladies on Saturday after a hockey free half term break.
As I wasn’t present for the first half I’m unable to be specific about what actually happened, however Tanky helpfully filled me in that it could be summed up with a brief statement reporting that the opposition set up camp in the Oxford half for the majority of the time and some how we reached half time with the score at 1-1. Doesn’t sound like further description was required!
The half time team talk galvanised the players and from the start of the second half there was clearly a much more forward thinking strategy. After a fruitless ten minutes Oxofrd finally broke through with a second goal courtesy of a Tanky penalty stroke which was calmly slotted away after an opposition foot on the line stopped the ball crossing the line. Wycombe continued to apply pressure with their speedy attacks but the back line of Corin, Harriet, Liv, Danielle and Ruth held firm. We managed to repel most attacks with only a couple of penalty corners being conceded, one notably was awarded for my cricket style shot which nearly beheaded Tanky (hence DOD!)- sorry mate! The penalty corners were swiftly dealt with and converted in to attacking runs up the pitch, it was very satisfying to see the final goal being scored after the team worked the ball all the way up the pitch from defence to attack. The third and final goal settled the nerves and felt a just award for a team who worked hard against stiff opposition but failed to give up or lose their heads.
The 2s march on to meet top three opposition next week in the form of Amersham and Chalfont who are also pushing for promotion.
Scorers: Maya Choudry, Laura Smyth, Will Linden
