Rover Junior Tournament – 8th/9th April at Cokethorpe School

 

As many of you will probably be aware, we have been running the annual Rover Tournament for many years, offering junior players throughout the country the chance to compete and gain valuable hockey experience in a friendly environment. For many young players it is the highlight of the hockey calendar and is always and excellent occasion. It also means great publicity for the club, attracts new young players and is a major fundraiser for the whole club. It takes place this year over the weekend of 8th/9th April at Cokethorpe School.  This is the 25th edition of the festival!

However the success of the tournament wouldn’t be possible without the work of volunteers and this year we are calling out to you to offer your help in organising the event. It is stressed that for most roles no hockey experience is necessary  so please help if you can – even one hour makes a difference.

 

Saturday 8th April (All times are to be confirmed)

9.15-11.40 Under 8.

12.15-2.35 Under 10. 

3.00-5.35 Under 12 Boys. 

Sunday 9th April (All times are to be confirmed)

9.15-12.30 Under 12 Girls

1.00-4.30 Under 14 Girls and U14 Boys (Played concurrently)

 

These are the jobs that we need help with:

 

Umpire Co-ordinator

An umpire coordinator who can sort out and organise umpires over the weekend is needed. You do not need umpiring experience for this it is purely an organisational role. It could be one person per each day.

 

Umpires

All the games are 7-a-side on half pitches with one umpire per pitch.  For any new umpires it’s great experience and it can be used for training.  We need as many as possible on both days – again just a couple of hours per person would be great.

 

Cake Stall helpers

At the tournament we have professional caterers but every year we have a cake and coffee stall with cakes donated by parents and friends.  We need lots of people over the weekend for one or two hours to help run the stall.  Of course if you can bake something and bring it along so much the better.  Easy job!  This rota is being organised by Charlotte Roberts (robertsfamilyoxford@gmail.com) so please contact her if you can help.

 

Scoring/Timekeeping:

A team of helpers on both days to take down scores, update the points table and sound the timing hooter is needed across the weekend. 

 

Merchandise

If anyone fancies taking on some merchandising duties – T-Shirts, socks etc. then please come forward.  We need generic items that would interest players and parents from all clubs.

 

Car Parking

We need a few people on Saturday 8th from 7.45 to 12.30 to help steer cars in the right direction.  You get to wear a fab Hi-Vis jacket and get respect from the incoming vehicles.

 

First Aiders

If you have a current first aid certificate and think you can dispense a little TLC to the odd minor injury please get in touch – again a two hour rota is what we are aiming for.
