Oxford 3-3 Maidenhead

Oxford Men’s 1’s get bogged down in Maidenhead

Three first half errors cost Oxford top spot, slow to adapt to playing on a rain drenched energy sapping pitch. Oxford got turned over in the middle of the pitch the athletic Maidenhead forwards took advantage breaking quickly to slot home neatly. Oxford responded quickly putting Maidenhead defence under pressure and winning a short corner which was fired in by Matt Mckeown. However Oxford did not learn from their initial error and twice got caught trying to go through the middle of the pitch and paid heavenly.  Maidenhead finishing the half 3-1  converting a flick after a deflected shot hit Matt Fisher leg  and being judged to be on route to goal.

Second half Oxford regrouped and dominated , working more as a unit and pressing high Maidenhead could not retain the ball and after 15 minutes Matt Mckeown slotted home his second short corner to bring the score to 3-2.

With less than ten minutes remaining Oxford pressure continued to build and Jonny Campbell brave drive at the far post made it 3-3.

Oxford searched for the winner but failed to show enough composure to convert the few remaining chances to win the game.

Men’s 1s v. Marlow 1s – 08.11.14 – Match Report

Oxford 6 – 0 Marlow

Building from the good win last week against Eastcote, Oxford Men’s 1s were up for another strong performance. Oxford started the game well with two deflected goals from Jonny Campbell and one goal by captain Matt Mckeown from a short corner giving Oxford a 3-0 lead at half-time. With the weather getting less bearable, the team needed to keep their basics together for the second half in order to see the game off and secure three points.

The second half began in a deluge of rain. Oxford maintained their authority over the game scoring a further three goals. Two from Dan Bleach who continues his chase for the league’s top goal scorer, and one from Callum Mckenzie. The game ended 6-0 to Oxford and a happy Oxford Men’s 1s team remain top of the league.

Mens’ 1s v. Wycombe 1s – 11.10.14 – Match Report

Oxford 3-4 Wycombe

Three unnecessary yellow cards cost the 1’s dearly in this feisty encounter with Wycombe. Oxford looked to build on their promising start to the season a with a victory over Hawks but were on the back foot as Wycombe started strongly and were very physical in the challenge.

Wycombe opened the scoring first after some neat open play which resulted in Oxford conceding a Short Corner which went low on the right post.

This seemed to finally get Oxford ignited and two quick goals from the home side opened up a 2-1 lead. First to score was Dan Bleach finishing neatly after the Wycombe defender miss placed his pass. The second from JamieHammond on his 1st team debut following up his first shot at goal from his own short corner shot.

Oxford should have been awarded a stroke when a Wycombe defender stopped a through ball with his back stick with an Oxford forward waiting by the far post sadly this was missed by the umpire. This could have put Oxford 3-1 up and changed the outcome however Oxford got sloppy and Wycombe equalized after a rash challenge from an Oxford defender.

Halftime 2-2

Following the break three consecutive yellow cards all avoidable put Oxford on the back foot and Wycombe’s pressure paid off with a well worked short corner goal.

With five minutes remaining and Oxford building pressure the Umpire awarded Oxford a stroke, Wycombe defender being judged to have stopped the ball on the line with his foot. Callum Mac calmly slotting home. The cheers could be heard from the Headington Astro.

Straight from the pushback Wycombe flooded the Oxford half and waltzed through the midfield and attacked  the Oxford defence , a Wycombe forward latched onto the through ball and beat Callum in goal on his  near post to start off wild scenes for the Wycombe coaching team and subs.  Oxford left the pitch deflated.

Big thank you for the Oxford supporters for adding to a great atmosphere.
