Back to Hockey: new sessions starting 10 May for beginners or women returning to hockey after a break

We are running our 13th ‘Back to Hockey’ course for women on the following five Tuesdays this summer:

10th, 17th, 24th May, and 7th, 14th June.

Oxford Brookes astroturf pitch, 7-8pm. The cost is £20 in total (i.e. £4 per session).

Please spread the word among your friends/family/colleagues who might be interested:

There will be two levels – beginner and refresher – so if you want to brush up on your hockey basics (even if you play regularly or have had some time out) OR have done a Back to Hockey course in the past and enjoyed it OR haven’t played since school OR are a total beginner… come along and have a go! All welcome to what are designed to be fun and friendly sessions.

Find more information on Back to Hockey here.

Summer Hockey is coming – are you interested?

As usual we are entering teams into the local summer leagues as follows:

Men

The league will again be played on Wednesday nights with games starting at 6.30pm or 8pm. It will be played at Banbury Road North, using both the pitches. The games will start in the middle of May and continue to sometime in June or July. As usual we will be entering mixed teams with players drawn from every winter mens side. If you are interested please complete the form here.

Women

As in previous years, teams will be entered into two leagues, one based at BRN the other the White Horse League. Full details are on the form which can be found and completed here.

Ladies 3s are League Champions!

Congratulations to the ladies 3rd team who – with one match still to play – have come top of their division, Trysports Premier 2 and are now looking forward to joining our 2nd team in Prem 1 next season!

The 3s secured their title in some style at Brookes last Saturday when they beat Marlow 2s 12-1 (all the more impressive when you consider that Marlow are not struggling at the bottom of the division but currently sit in 4th place!). Witney then beat second-placed Newbury & Thatcham 1s, leaving them four points behind Oxford with only one match to play. Continue reading

Training times changes

Due to the Easter break, there are changes to men’s training for the rest of the month, with some sessions cancelled and the time of the last Wednesday session changed. Make sure you know when your sessions are on! Details here.

Ladies training finishes this week.

Rule Change – taking effect this weekend (27th February)

England Hockey have just announced a change in rule 13.2 – which are the procedures for taking a free hit, centre pass and putting the ball back into play after it has been outside the field. This affects the taking of free hits by an attacking side within the 25 yard/23 metre line but outside the circle. England Hockey have said that this rule change should take place with effect from this weekend’s games.

Full details of the rule change – together with the process that umpires and captains should follow when introducing this new rule may be found here and here.
