Back to Hockey is a national scheme designed for women with a focus on fun, fitness and friendship, for beginners who have never picked up a hockey stick before, to those who have been away from the game for a while and want to polish up their rusty skills. You’ll have the opportunity to get a bit fitter, learn new skills and play team hockey in a fun and sociable environment.
The ladies’ section of Oxford hockey club has run 14 successful Back to Hockey courses since the legacy of the London 2012 Olympics, and Rio 2016 gave the sport an even bigger boost!
Our next Back to Hockey course will be in May-June 2018 when the evenings are lighter and the weather warmer! Watch this space for more information.
The sessions will be at Oxford Brookes astroturf pitch at Headington, Oxford (click for directions).
We have hockey sticks available to borrow so there’s no need to buy one. Just wear clothes suitable for sport (t-shirt, sweatshirt, shorts or tracksuit bottoms), and trainers or astroturf shoes if you have them. Bring a bottle of water to keep hydrated during the session, and a waterproof just in case (rain does NOT stop play!).
Oxford Brookes has changing facilities, toilets and showers, as well as the Brookes Sports Bar and Crêperie.
