Back to Hockey

Back to Hockey

Thinking of getting back into hockey? Or trying it for the first time?

Back to Hockey is a national scheme designed with a focus on fun, fitness and friendship, for beginners who have never picked up a hockey stick before, to those who have been away from the game for a while and want to polish up their rusty skills. You’ll have the opportunity to get a bit fitter, learn new skills and play team hockey in a fun and sociable environment.

We've run several courses since the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics legacy. It's been a fantastic success from students in their teens or 20s to parents of young hockey players to grandparents who want to keep fit. We've seen men and women of all ages pick up sticks and begin playing hockey for our wide range of teams. A good number have got the bug and become stalwart members of our community!

If you would like to register for a trial session or would like further information, please contact Addy Porter to introduce yourself.

Jon Darnell, Coach

Our coach Jon has retired 4 times from competitive hockey but cannot stay away so knows all about the challenges of making a return. He started playing on grass, thankfully went through redgra and onto compacted sand based astros.

The pitches now are fantastic and the game as fun as ever. Jon will guide you back into hockey gently and you will overcome the aching back and hamstrings. Whether you want to play to rekindle the old competitive spirit, have a more interesting training routine than running on a belt or just get away from the kids, come and give us a try.
