Oxford Hockey Club’s junior section enjoyed a hugely successful day on Sunday 22 March, as all four Oxford junior teams produced outstanding performances at the In2Hockey Oxfordshire County Finals — with every team qualifying for the regional stages of the competition.
Huge congratulations go to Oxford's U10 and U12 Girls' teams, both crowned County Champions! Oxford’s U10 Boys and U12 Boys teams also performed superbly, finishing as runners-up in their respective competitions to secure their places at the next stage.
The tournament, hosted by Oxford Hockey Club at the superb facilities of Cokethorpe School, brought together clubs from across the county to compete for county honours in the Under 10 and Under 12 boys’ and girls’ competitions. Teams from Banbury, Bicester, Henley, Oxford Hawks, Thame, Wallingford and Witney joined Oxford in a fantastic celebration of junior hockey. Played in excellent weather and supported by families, coaches and volunteers, the Finals had a fantastic atmosphere throughout. The standard of hockey on display across Oxfordshire was impressively high, making the event both competitive and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Our fantastic results are a clear demonstration of the importance of the club’s junior section and its role in developing the next generation of Oxford players. In2Hockey continues to be a foundation competition for the club, providing young players with positive, competitive experiences and helping to build confidence, skills and a love of the game.
The performances across the day are testament to the hard work and dedication of our junior players and coaching teams, whose commitment to development, inclusivity and enjoyment continues to deliver impressive results both on and off the pitch.
The South Central Regional Finals will take place on 26 April, where Oxford’s teams will go on to represent both the club and the county against strong opposition from across the region.
We wish all four teams the very best in their preparations and look forward to following their progress.
A brilliant achievement from our juniors — and another exciting sign of a bright future for Oxford Hockey Club.
